DVD and Blu-ray Reviews
General rules apply unless stated. View guidelines for Basics, Appearance and Content
Credits
All reviews must begin with credit information, in the format given below.
Title:
Director:
Starring:
Certificate:
Released: Date if advance review. “Out now” if already released. “Generally available” if not a new release.
RRP:
In credit panels, the section (e.g. Director) should be bolded, and the information (e.g. Stanley Kubrick) should be in standard text.
The RRP should always include the £ sterling RRP. If you are writing from a country which uses a different currency (e.g. US$), please give the £ sterling RRP in addition to your local currency.
Note: RRP should always be the Recommended or Suggested Retail Price. It does not matter if you paid a different amount or if it is readily available at a different price.
Synopsis
Please open with a short synopsis of the DVD or Blu-ray you are reviewing. Synopses should be around 100 words long. Synopses should be written in italics. Titles of films, TV shows, books etc. within the synopsis should still be in bold, but in this case, titles of individual episodes should be in standard type. For example:
This is a short synopsis of the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. This sentence is about an episode called Beer Bad.
Pictures
All reviews should be accompanied by a suitable picture. This should be submitted as a separate file, not included in the review document. For DVDs and Blu-rays this should be a picture of the cover. Pictures should be no larger than 250 by 400 pixels.
Content
Do not give away major plot twists in any review. If nothing else, think of the poor copy editor who reads every article submitted to the site!
Reviews should be your opinion, not a recap of the plot.
Ratings
GeekPlanet does not give star ratings. We prefer that the review itself convey the quality of the media being reviewed.
Extras
You may either discuss extras within the main body of the review, or list them in a separate section at the end of the review.
Blu-ray
This format should always be spelled and hyphenated as above. Its abbreviation is BD.
