TOPIC: Games Workshop

Re:Games Workshop 3 years, 5 months ago #2752

Wasn't sure whether to put this in the books section or here. I chose here as I figured that WH40K is as much about the background history as it is the game itself...

I've got a question about the Horus Heresy in the spoiler box below.

:pinch: Warning: Spoiler!

Cheers!

I don't think the explanation has actually been spelled out in the novels, only hinted at, but then again it's been an age since I read the early ones. Chances are it'll either not be touched again, or there'll be a big "aha! Davinite warrior lodges influenced your perfect Astartes. father!" exposition dump from The Warmaster come the face off betwixt Horus and The Emperor. I'm thinking it'll be the former though, as doubtless they'll want to try an avoid Horus becoming a generic insane bad guy.

Hiya, I've been gaming for over ten years. I play orcs and goblins for warhammer fantasy and battle sisters for 4OK and have now been introduced to necromunda and enjoyed it. I started on man-o-war cos I was dismissive of org's table top gaming when we first met and he said don't knock it til you've tried it so I gave it a go and loved it. The box had a picture of orcs on the side and after a few games I asked "can we get that game?" He and his mates loved the idea but his Mum wasn't very pleased with me...

Welcome to the forum, AMO!

I missed out on Man-O-War; which I always thought was a shame. Certainly, Battlefleet Gothic is one my favourite games, and how different can they be? They're both about ships, and such...

Hello hello! *waves*

I missed out on Man o'War, too, which sucks as I've always loved the pics of the Dark Elf ships that I've seen and would like to have a DE fleet.

I've never played BFG, either, although I'd be terribly unoriginal there and have to go with a Space Marine fleet. In fact if I ever get another 40K army it'll be Marines (or Chaos Marines), too. Probably Dark Angels.

Not at all impressed with this storms of magic release. All the armies lose their distinctiveness and what ought to be a fun combat-based game becomes all about big monsters and magic, so power gaming, basically, which I tried when I was a newbie gamer 15 years ago and didn't enjoy half as much as just going Waaagh! and chucking orcs at everything...

What have they done? Dumped in big monsters that stomp on everything?

I was looking at Warhammer and similar games just to see how squardreon based games were run, but it sounds like they've totally messed it up now.
